The Astros have dealt 32-year old righty closer Jose Veras to the Detroit Tigers for 19-year old lefty swinging outfielder Danry Vasquez and a player to be named later (which they will receive on or before September 15th). Veras pitched in 42 games (0 starts) for the Astros this year and he was 0-4 with 19 saves, a 2.93 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Veras only gave up 29 hits and 14 walks while whiffing 44 batters in his 43 innings with the Astros, as he was rock solid for them. Danry Vasquez played in 96 games in A-ball for the Tigers this year and he was 105 of 374 (.281 avg, .723 OPS) with 46 runs scored, 5 homers, 39 RBIs and 9 stolen bases. He has now played in 251 games in his first three years in the minors and he is 267 of 968 (.276 avg, .685 OPS) with 112 runs scored, 10 homers, 111 RBIs and 18 stolen bases. Getting Vasquez and another prospect for Jose Veras was a nice little haul for the Astros.
