The Astros have designated 35-year old lefty swinging 1B Carlos Pena for assignment. Pena played in 85 games for the Astros this year and he was 58 of 277 (.209 avg, .674 OPS) with 38 runs scored, 8 homers, 25 RBIs and 1 stolen base. He has now played in 1,471 games in his first 13 years in the majors and he is 1,138 of 4,887 (.233 avg, .813 OPS) with 741 runs scored, 285 homers, 816 RBIs and 28 stolen bases. The Astros just couldn’t justify giving Pena ABs and taking them away from Chris Carter or Brett Wallace anymore.
