Bob Watson was a darn good player for the Houston Astros

Righty swinging 1B/OF Bob Watson was a darn good player for the Houston Astros!  He played in 1,381 games in his 14 years with the Houston Astros and he was 1,448 of 4,883 (.297 avg, .808 OPS) with 640 runs scored, 139 homers, 782 RBI and 21 stolen bases.  He was an All-Star in 1973 and 1975 for the Houston Astros.  His best two years though, came in 1976 and 1977 for the Astros.  Watson played in 157 games in 1976 for the Astros and he was 183 of 585 (.313 avg, .835 OPS) with 76 runs scored, 16 homers, 102 RBI and 3 stolen bases.  In 1977, Watson played in 151 games for the Astros in which he was 160 of 554 (.289 avg, .858 OPS) with 77 runs scored, 22 homers, 110 RBI and 5 stolen bases.  Watson really had a nice run for the Astros from 1972-78, in which he played in 1,034 games in which he was 1,139 of 3,730 (.305 avg, .836 OPS) with 511 runs scored, 113 homers, 623 RBI and 19 stolen bases.

Bob Watson is still tied for #3 in Houston Astros’ history with his .297 batting average.  He is also #8 in OBP (.364), #13 in SLG (.444), #9 in OPS (.808), #8 in games played (1,381), #8 in runs scored (640), #6 in hits (1,448), #6 in doubles (241), tied for #13 in triples (30), #7 in home runs (139), #5 in RBI (782) and he is also #9 in walks (508) in Houston Astros’ history!
