The Houston Astros have picked up their 2017 option on 30-year old righty swinging C/DH Evan Gattis, valued at $5.2 million bucks. Gattis played in 128 games for the Astros last year and he was 112 of 447 (.251 avg, .826 OPS) with 58 runs scored, 32 homers, 72 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Gattis has now played in 281 games in his first two years with the Astros and he is 251 of 1,013 (.248 avg, .783 OPS) with 124 runs scored, 59 homers, 160 RBI and 2 stolen bases. Gattis might be in line to catch a little more in 2017 if the Astros don’t bring back Jason Castro (definitely a possibility as he is a free agent this winter). No matter where Gattis gets his ABs, the Astros will be happy with the power he brings to the plate!
