33-year old lefty swinging Rick Ankiel has been getting a lot of P.T. in RF so far this year and he’s showing off his power stroke. Ankiel has played in 14 games for the Astros so far this year and he is 8 for 35 (.229 avg, .857 OPS) with 4 runs scored, 4 homers and 10 RBIs. Ankiel has been a hacker at the plate though as he has whiffed 23 times without walking so far this year. Ankiel has now played in 622 games in his first 11 years in the majors and he is 446 of 1,828 (.244 avg, .731 OPS) with 251 runs scored, 73 homers, 243 RBIs and 21 stolen bases. What you see is what you get with Ankiel……power and a lot of whiffs……and that Astros are likely o.k. with that.
